The Parkgate hotel Cardiff wedding ceremony
Johnny and Betsi got married at The Parkgate hotel in Cardiff in late March 2026.
The Parkgate Hotel. Completed in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, it was designed by the renowned architect Sir Henry Tanner.
The very emotional ceremony with only closest family members present took place at the Telegraph room. Once the ceremony ended, everyone gathered for group photos. After that, we took a short walk into the city centre to capture some romantic portraits of the bride and groom. And it was so busy in the city centre!
Cardiff city centre bride and groom photo session
With the Cardiff city centre closed for the big rugby matches at the stadium, Betsi and Johnny had a massive “audience” for their wedding photos. They were congratulated by fans everywhere we went!
We embraced the crowds for some fun street shots before heading to Cardiff Castle for newlyweds portraits. And what a fantastic opportunity for photos it was. With the roads closed to traffic, the couple could stand right in the center of the street for those wide, cinematic shots under the gorgeous blue sky.
The Exchange Hotel wedding reception
Johnny and Betsi booked my half-day wedding photography package, splitting the coverage into two parts:
- the ceremony and the urban photoset in Cardiff
- evening reception at The Exchange Hotel.
And I need to say the second part was as fantastic and memorable as the first one: from after-sunset portraits at Cardiff Bay to the heartfelt speeches and a high-energy Ceilidh, every moment was a joy to capture—including a cake cutting performed with a family “grandad sword.
