Nestled in the Pontcanna area of Cardiff stands the beautiful St. Mary’s Catholic Church. This Romanesque-style gem was the work of the well-known architect F.A. Walters, with its foundation stone laid on January 20th, 1907, by Bishop Hedley, and its opening following on November 3rd.

I previously photographed a christening ceremony here in the summer of 2021, a time when COVID restrictions were just beginning to ease. Now, in 2025, it’s lovely to be back at this beautiful church for Thea’s christening.

Christenings are a special occasion, and it’s important to capture the memories of the day in photographs. As a photographer, I had the privilege of being able to capture these moments for Stephanie’s family.

Stephanie has been baptised at St Peter and St Paul, Bristol which  is the church of Bristol’s principal Greek Orthodox congregation. The Greek Orthodox community in Bristol grew up in the 19th century from sailors arriving in the port. Services were held in Anglican churches, and in 1978 St Peter and St Paul was purchased by the Greek Orthodox church. It is situated in the Lower Ashley Road in Bristol.

The Greek Orthodox Church Bristol christening

As a photographer, I take great care to capture the special moments of christenings. The child’s baptism is a significant event in the child’s life, and the ceremony is also a time for family and friends to come together. I think it’s quite important to have photos to remember it.  And that’s why I always make sure that the photos are both beautiful and meaningful.

St Peter’s Hall in Cardiff is located by the St Peter’s church which was founded in 1830. The Hall was opened in 1955, and since then has welcomed many weddings and events. It was a big pleasure for me to capture Megan’s first holy communion party at St Peter’s Hall in Cardiff.

I met Megan in 2016, when her mother Neethu won a family photography session on my Facebook page contest. I took lovely photos of their big family then in Bute Park in Cardiff, and was privileged to capture such an important event for their family in 2022.

The holy communion party was beautiful – with many friends of the family attending, lots of food, group photos taken, dances and beautiful speeches! Megan was absolutely excited! Clara’s baptism in Cardiff

Clara’s baptism service took place at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, (67 Talbot Street, CF11 9BX, Cardiff). There were only Clara’s parents, and their 2 daughters (Clara and Lucia) attending the service. Their extended families were attending the service remotely (there’s a video streaming service available, so you can watch the church services in real-time).

After the ceremony, we had a short walk to Plasturton Gardens in Pontcanna for some candid family photos. Clara really enjoyed walking there on the grass, and there were so many opportunities for great shots there.

The baptism ceremony took place at St Nicholas orthodox church Cardiff.

I also did the formal (group) shots at the venue (restaurant Sunflower, located at Cardiff bay area), as well as captured the small details there – cake, christening ornaments, etc.

All the photographs and video captured by our South Wales and Bristol videographer during the celebrations made the customers to obviously enjoy them:

JONES’ TWINS’ CHRISTENING

Little twins Mr. and Ms. Jones’ christening (baptism) took place at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas in Cardiff on the warm and nice day of April. So many relatives and guests arrived from different parts of the UK to witness this event, so almost all church seats were taken.

Little ones had few couples of godparents which is quite common for orthodox Christians (the number of godparents could even reach 20-40 in some cases) – and all the godparents were wearing lovely small brooches with babies initials on their chests.

The baptism ceremony was followed by a reception at a hall nearby the Greek church where yummy authentic greek foods and dishes were served.
